This year, the Nantou County Government's Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) continues to organize campus awareness campaigns on soil and groundwater pollution prevention. The campaign aligns with the Ministry of Environment's theme of soil and groundwater and primarily features the board game “Land Defender.” EPB conducted campus awareness activities at five elementary schools in Nantou County, including Yongchang, Zhongyuan, Kangshou, Chyanshan, and Yuying, from March to April 2023.
The EPB states that this event involves using the environmental board game “Land Defender” to engage students in a fun and educational way, deepening their understanding of soil and groundwater pollution prevention. The curriculum covers topics such as what soil and groundwater are, how they can be contaminated, the consequences of contaminated soil and groundwater, and how to report environmental damage. This helps students to grasp the importance of soil and groundwater pollution prevention through picture books and board games.
Nantou County EPB Director-general Yi-shu Li stated that through this awareness campaign, children not only gain knowledge about soil and groundwater pollution but also develop a greater appreciation for the environment in their daily lives. The aim is to instill environmental education awareness from a young age. Director-general Li also hopes that the knowledge gained through their participation in environmental education and awareness activities will be shared with their families. This way, the concept of soil and groundwater pollution prevention can be further disseminated, making environmental protection awareness more widespread and contributing to the sustainable survival and development of our planet.
