Low-Carbon Net-Zero Emissions Green Tourism for Happiness and Staying Healthy Along the Way

 The Environmental Protection Bureau aims at net-zero emissions, promoting low-emission vehicles, and propagating low-carbon tourism and the Green Point system. To these ends, the Environmental Protection Bureau collaborates with the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration, Nantou County Department of Tourism, Taiwan Power Company Nantou Branch, Nantou Local Low-carbon Community Development Association, and auto brands with electric cars and scooters such as Tesla, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia and Kymco. On August 25, 2022, they held the press conference “Low-carbon Net-zero Emissions Green Tourism Happy Tour in Nantou” at Xiangshan Visitor Center to promote low-carbon travel and transport. Zheng-Sheng Chen, the Nantou County Deputy County Executive, held the press conference. This event had a bustling start. Qiu-Shu Wang, the county councilor; Qi-Fan Liu, the mayor of Yuchi Township; and owners of the hotels around Sun Moon Lake were present at the press conference. Zheng-Sheng Chen, the Deputy County Executive of Nantou County, called on locals to advocate the concept of low-carbon and plastic-free for sustainability of the Earth and green life for everyone.

 To continue to promote low-carbon tourism in Nantou County, the Environmental Protection Bureau expects to issue 50 million green points. Tourists who participate in green consumption around Sun Moon Lake can get green points by using their own cup or lunchbox at designated shops, riding electric boats, renting low-carbon vehicles, or taking part in low-carbon tourism measures by staying in Green Hotels or Good Food B&Bs. Green points are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, people actively participated in the event held by the Environmental Protection Bureau, “Plastic-Free Sun Moon Lake – Let’s be a Plastic-Free Tourist.” As a result, the Environmental Protection Bureau announced that the event will be extended to September 4, 2022, which is the day the Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival is held. Lots of prizes are available. Tourists can get green points and draw prizes, and should take part in the event as soon as possible.

 Zheng-Sheng Chen, the Deputy County Executive of Nantou County, indicated that electric car registration in Nantou County increased by 688.9% in the last four years, according to the statistics for electric car and scooter registration from the Ministry of Transportation and Communication, calculated from 2019 to June, 2022. This is the highest rate in the entire nation. Electric scooter registration in Nantou County increased by 102.1%, the fourth highest in the nation. Nantou County actively creates a friendly environment for electric cars and scooters. Statistics shows that the number of charging and replacement stations for electric cars increased 15.5 times in the last four years. Over 200 charging and replacement stations are now available in Nantou County, located all over the 13 townships and major scenic spots, for tourists to easily travel in Nantou County using low-carbon vehicles.

 Nantou County is the capital of tourism for Taiwan. It boasts beautiful scenic spots, delicious local food and a lovely atmosphere, and delightful tourism activities. The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau invites everyone to take a low-carbon trip and experience green tourism in Nantou, to create a wonderful life with low-carbon and net-zero emissions.
