When collecting, transporting, and disposing waste, cleaners or sanitation workers are working in a high-risk environment at all times. To ensure their occupational safety, the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau has recently been actively implementing the “Cleaner Occupational Safety Inspection Program” to improve the work environment and optimize the occupational safety and health for cleaners. The program aims at minimizing the likelihood of occupational accidents to further protect the occupational safety and health of cleaners.
After the detailed hazard identification of areas with the potential risk of fall in the cleaning division, the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau has marked the high-risk locations of fall, electric shock, collapse, slide, fire, explosion, poisoning, and hypoxia. It has also guided all city/town/township offices to strengthen the safety features and protective measures of such locations. To further improve protection for the occupational safety of cleaners, the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau has invited retired Senior Technical Specialist Zheng-Tong Cai of the Central Occupational Safety and Health Center, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, to conduct an on-site inspection. After the inspection, apart from making recommendations for solving serious hidden safety threats, such as unqualified aerial work platforms and no protective nets for the solar panel roof, Tsai also requested for improvement by a deadline to ensure that the occupational safety of cleaners meet the occupational safety and health standards.
Director-General Yi-Shu Li of the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau emphasizes, protecting the occupational safety of cleaners is the prime mission of the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau. The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau will continue to improve the work environment of cleaners and enhance cooperation with city/town/township offices to promote occupational safety in order to bring citizens of Nantou County better-quality public services.
