Following the rising concerns about environmental protection of the international community, the hazards of mercury have caught global attention. As traditional fluorescent tubes contain mercury, mercury will evaporate into the air when the tube is broken, causing severe threats to human health, particularly the development of fetuses and infants.
Hence, the government has been actively promoting the environmental protection and energy conservation policies in recent years to strongly advocate the use of LED lighting. Compared to traditional lighting, LED lighting has the following advantages. Mercury-free design: eliminate mercury contamination to protect the environment and human health; longer life and higher efficiency: offer a life of over 10,000 hours to significantly reduce the replacement frequency and save energy at the same time; low heat: emit little heat to lower the room temperature and thereby air-conditioning expenses.
The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau advises, when buying lights, citizens should select products carrying the “Energy Label” or “Green Product Mark” to ensure the quality and environmental protection performance of products. As waste lights still contain plastics and metals, they should thus be disposed of properly. Instead of dumping them at will, hand waste lights over to cleaners or the collection stations of dealers.
According to Director-General Yi-Shu Li of the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau, apart from a lighting tool, LED is also the best option for environmental protection and health protection. For the sustainable use of the advantages of LED lights, don’t forget to recover waste lights. This little act will mean a big help to Earth.
