To cooperate with the policy of the Resource Circulation Administration (RECA), Ministry of Environment (MOENV), the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau will enhance the open-bag inspection of bin liners from July to ensure the effectiveness of waste sorting and resource recycling so as to reduce waste transportation and lower the pressure on waste disposal in Nantou County. Citizens should cooperate with the policy to sort waste into the following three categories: general waste, recyclable waste, and kitchen waste.
The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau and local cleaning units will perform the open-bag inspection of bin liners from time to time. Discovery of more than three pieces of recyclable waste in general waste will be considered as non-compliance with the waste sorting regulations, and citizens will be requested to re-sort the waste on-site before disposal. Additionally, citizens refusing to cooperate will be sanctioned in accordance with Article 50 of the Waste Disposal Act, with a fine of NT$1,200–NT$6,000.
To help citizens better follow the waste sorting regulations, the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau introduces the following methods for waste sorting and resource recycling:
1. Waste Sorting Guide: Ensure the separation of paper, plastics, metals, and glass from general waste. For more information about resource recycling, please visit the RECA website at https://recycle.moenv.gov.tw/Understanding/RecyclableItems.
2. Kitchen Waste Disposal: Collect kitchen waste independently. As it can be used for composting or feeding animals, please do not mix kitchen waste with other waste.
3. Participation in related activities: Actively participate in related environmental protection activities and training organized by communities and related agencies to raise environmental awareness and enrich environmental knowledge.
By enhancing the open-bag inspection of bin liners, we hope to encourage citizens to follow the waste sorting regulations more strictly to contribute to environmental improvement together. The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau will continue to publicize waste sorting to ensure each citizen can sort waste correctly and protect our environment. Let’s create a cleaner and better environment for Nantou together!
