To promote environmental education and help children understand the importance of environmental conservation from a young age, the Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) of Nantou County Government will host an event in collaboration with Earth Day on June 18th. The event, titled “Earth Day - Defend the Earth Action: Little Environmental Chiefs on a Mission,” will feature selected themes such as “Air Quality Monitoring Equipment Operation” and “Environmental Petition Ambassadors.” Students will engage in hands-on activities and interactive learning to create a unique environmental education experience.
Incorporating the theme, a special addition to the curriculum is the “Air, Don't Cry. Fight for Clean Air” board game activity. Members from the Aerosol Science Research Center at National Sun Yat-sen University will lead participants in playing the board game to enhance their understanding of air pollution and air quality management. This interactive approach encourages practical environmental action. The participants will also learn about the connection between air pollution, respiratory health, and epidemics, raising awareness about often overlooked sources of air pollution in urban and rural areas and the role of virus aerosols in pandemics.
Interested primary school students (grades 3 to 6) are welcome to register for this event by June 8th. In this activity, children can learn how to measure suspended particles in the air, understand the channels for pollution complaints, and discover ways to reduce air pollution. This helps them to better understand the importance of environmental protection and instills eco-friendly habits in their daily lives, fostering a love for our planet.
