First place for Social Section Home in Wuxi

　In order to inspire the public to understand the importance of environmental protection, the Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau held a contest for Environmental Education Picture Book. This year, the topics are “Local Nantou Specialties and Environment,” “Nantou County Environmental Education Facility,” “Environmental Issues,” and “Sustainable Development Indicators,” inspiring readers to care and learn about the environment, and to take action.

　This year contests may sign up for School or Social Section. Thirteen works of art were submitted. Experts and scholars in environmental education, early childhood education and Parent-Child Tribe Course were invited to join the evaluation committees on August 16, 2022. After professional review by committees, the winners were announced. School Section: First place, Love between Mountains and On Top of My Heart, second place, Our River, third place, Jewel Box of Time, and Excellence Award, Tree’s Journey, Hello, Mr. Leopard Cat, and Let’s Go to the Aviary. Social Section: First place, Home in Wuxi, second place, Get Along with Monkeys!, third place, Protect the Earth Together, and Excellence Award, Walk Around and Check Out Anything Different Now, Love Nantou and Walk Together Safely, A Journey of A Slipper, and Counter Attack from the Ocean.

　First place in the School Section is “Love between Mountains and On Top of My Heart”. The theme focused on advocating mountain education. The author loves nature and wants to convey ideas and actions for caring about nature through the picture book. He hopes that everyone can enjoy clean mountains. It is hoped that in this book, lively, fun pictures and easy-to-understand text can motivate children to learn about environmental protection and put it into practice in daily life. Therefore, we can cheer for the environmental education.

　First place in the Social Section is “Home in Wuxi”. The content is abundant, including environmental awareness and action. Drawing skills and overall visuals are quite lovely. Characters and scenes in the book are almost lifelike. The book introduces unique ecological resources in Nantou and guides readers to observe and realize that the Central Taiwan gudgeon, a protected species, is actually quite common. People often unintentionally impact the environment creatures live in. We should spread the idea that “Earth is the home of humans and creatures.”

　Yi-Shu Li, the Director General of the Environmental Protection Bureau, stated that the works this year are excellent. They integrate local Nantou specialties, environmental issues and ecological conservation. By holding the picture book contest, the Environmental Protection Bureau hopes to help students and their parents learn about environmental issues in their hometown. It is also hoped that these authors can express their understanding of the land they live in and show their creativity. The Bureau hopes that more people will resonate with the idea of environmental protection and work on it together.

　All winners this year will be published for environmental education promotion in Nantou County. They will represent Nantou County to join the 2022 Environmental Education Picture Book Carnival held in Huashan 1914 Creative Park this October, held by the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan. They will express the local environmental features and environmental protection knowledge of Nantou County to the public.
