As the world moves toward the 2050 net-zero transformation goal, resource circulation has become an essential part of carbon reduction efforts. As a major tourism destination, Nantou County generates a large amount of paper containers every day, including food trays, paper cups, and lunch boxes. These containers are typically coated with a polyethylene (PE) film to prevent leakage and grease penetration, meaning they should be classified as “waste paper containers” rather than general waste paper. Proper sorting and recycling can effectively reduce the county’s waste management burden and help preserve Nantou’s valuable natural landscapes and forest resources.

　To promote the proper recycling of paper containers, the Environmental Protection Bureau, Nantou County Government reminds residents to follow key recycling practices. After meals, residents should first empty any leftover food scraps and liquids, then complete the three simple steps of “Clean, Separate, and Flatten.” First, “Clean” by removing food residue and grease. Next, “Separate” any non-paper materials, such as plastic lids, straws, and tape. Finally, “Flatten” the containers to save storage space. The Bureau particularly reminds residents that mixing paper containers with general waste paper will increase processing difficulties and resource losses at paper mills. Please place them in the designated “paper container” category in recycling bins to ensure these materials can truly be recycled and reused.

　Director-general Yi-shu Li of the Bureau stated, “Nantou’s beautiful scenery requires the joint efforts of every resident and visitor to protect it. The simple act of washing and flattening paper containers represents our care and consideration for the land. While enjoying our food, let’s also take a moment to properly sort paper containers. By paying attention to small details, we can turn environmental protection into action and contribute to a greener Nantou.”

　The Bureau also calls on food service businesses and households across the county to fulfill their recycling responsibilities. Residents are encouraged to support waste reduction policies, reduce the use of disposable tableware, bring reusable containers when going out, and reduce waste at the source to jointly create a more livable Nantou.
