To ensure the safety and quality of drinking water for the public, the Environmental Protection Bureau, Nantou County Government reminds all public and private facilities that install fixed continuous water supply equipment for public drinking use to comply with the Drinking Water Management Act and the Regulations Governing the Use and Maintenance of Fixed Continuous Water Supply Equipment for Drinking Water (飲用水連續供水固定設備使用及維護管理辦法). Facilities are required to properly conduct equipment maintenance, water quality inspections, record keeping, and information disclosure to protect consumer rights and jointly safeguard public drinking water safety.
The Bureau stated that drinking water equipment is closely connected to residents’ daily lives and is commonly found in government agencies, schools, medical institutions, transportation facilities, sports centers, shopping venues, and other public spaces. To prevent declining water quality caused by aging filter materials, insufficient pipeline cleaning, contaminated water outlets, or improper management, facility operators should regularly inspect equipment conditions and establish self-maintenance systems.
Management units responsible for drinking water equipment should conduct maintenance either independently or through professional service providers at least once a month. Maintenance tasks may include replacing filter cartridges or filter materials, cleaning equipment, flushing pipelines, performing disinfection procedures, and inspecting water outlets and the exterior of machines. All maintenance details must be accurately recorded in the Drinking Water Equipment Water Quality Inspection and Maintenance Record Form (飲用水設備水質檢驗及設備維護紀錄表). In addition, management units must conduct regular water quality testing in accordance with regulations to ensure safe drinking water for the public.
The Bureau further explained that water quality inspection results and equipment maintenance records must be posted or displayed in a prominent location on the drinking water equipment, allowing the public to easily review the latest maintenance and testing information. When using public drinking water equipment, residents are also encouraged to check whether the equipment is clean, whether the water outlet shows signs of dirt or rust, and whether inspection and maintenance records are displayed on site. Through public participation and attention, the effectiveness of drinking water safety management can be further improved.
