Nantou Monthly Cleaning Day - Everyone Join In!

To create a clean, healthy, and livable environment, the Nantou County Government actively promotes the “Monthly Cleaning Day on the Third Saturday” campaign, inviting local residents and environmental volunteers to participate in public cleanliness efforts and mosquito-borne disease prevention. To date, Nantou’s environmental volunteer teams have enthusiastically participated in over 150 cleaning activities, covering streets, parks, and community corners, removing litter and illegal posters, while also implementing dengue prevention measures including “patrol, drainage, cleaning, and scrubbing.”

As temperatures rise and rainfall increases, the risk of dengue outbreaks grows. Therefore, the cleaning day focuses on eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Volunteers not only collect trash and organize public spaces, but also inspect households, drainage ditches, vacant lots, and flowerpot bases for standing water, removing stagnant water, clearing debris, and scrubbing containers to effectively reduce mosquito breeding risks.

The Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) of Nantou County Government emphasizes that maintaining environmental hygiene is crucial, not only for urban and rural quality of life but also as the first line of defense in disease prevention. The bureau expresses gratitude to the county’s volunteers for their long-term, selfless dedication, serving as a strong support system for protecting community environments and residents’ health. Through the strengthened cleaning efforts during Monthly Cleaning Day, the bureau hopes to unite citizens in preventing dengue and safeguarding Nantou’s beauty and safety.

Director-general Yi-shu Li of the EPB, Nantou County Government, also calls on more communities, volunteer teams, and residents to participate in the “Third Saturday of Each Month as Cleaning Day” initiative, integrating cleaning actions into daily life and jointly promoting the “Clean Together, Protect Together” concept. This collective effort not only keeps the environment tidy but also effectively prevents dengue and other infectious diseases, helping Nantou become a safe, livable, and sustainable community.
