The Environmental Protection Administration has promoted the establishment of Green Outposts to achieve the goal of Net Zero 2050, and carried out carbon emission reduction actions through the net zero green actions of villages.

Nantou County has made Xincuo Village, Caotun Township its Green Outpost, and the village chief has also promoted community environment protection actions for many years. At the same time, the village itself is also one of the many low carbon emission sustainable communities. An eco-friendly burner has been installed in front of the community’s Fude Temple. Low-carbon emission cultural actions such as “one incense per burner” and “replacing gold with rice” have also been well practiced. Warm water used to cool off the burner was connected to a small pond to form an “Eco-friendly Fuan Feet Pool” for villagers to submerge their feet and relax. Recycled water was also used to water surrounding plants, thus achieving the purpose of “using the same water three times”. Solar energy panels were also installed around the place to provide lighting at night and enhance the security of its surrounding.

On October 22, the Environmental Protection Bureau collaborated with Xincuo Community to hold a “Green Life by Making Eco-friendly Potted Plant on Your Own” workshop. Community residents were invited to make eco-friendly potted plants with recycled metal cans. Through the step-by-step instruction of instructor Li Zi-Ying, community residents made many beautiful and adorable potted plants. The instructor mentioned that she usually uses landscaping methods to make where she lives prettier by recycling and reusing wastes. Participants also said that they rarely had the chance to make potted plants on their own, and it was a remarkable experience to be able to reused commonly seen waste.

Commissioner Li Yi-Shu of the Environmental Protection Bureau stated that environmental protection actions should start from community residents. From the village chief to residents, Xincuo Community has put in effort to make the living environment of Xincuo Village better and more livable. This DIY workshop has deepened the environmental protection awareness of local residents, enabling them to practice eco-friendly actions into their daily livelihood. This will make environmental protection awareness become the consensus of families and communities, thus attracting more residents to take part in environmental protection actions.
