In response to the recent outbreak, the Nantou County Government Environmental Protection Bureau cooperated with the County’s Epidemic Prevention Command Center to carry out disinfection in areas containing the footprints of the confirmed cases with the Township Office Cleaning Teams. As of the end of May, 27 disinfection vehicles and 85 disinfection personnel were dispatched on disinfection duties to ensure a healthy, comfortable, and safe living environment for the residents of Nantou County.

Starting from May 12th, the Environmental Protection Bureau has notified the Township Office Cleaning Teams to focus on crowded hot areas (night markets, markets, business districts), large business venues (retail stores and other business venues), and transportation stations (bus stops), schools, public offices. The cleaning teams have carried out preventive environmental disinfections at a total of 55 public venues, and will continue to conduct disinfection operations within their jurisdiction in June according to their schedules.

Bureau Director Hsin-hsiung Fang has stated that the Environmental Protection Bureau is maintaining unimpeded contact with the township office cleaning teams on a daily basis, and comprehensively tallied the epidemic prevention materials and ensured the readiness of the personnel. If there is a shortage of epidemic prevention materials, the Environmental Protection Bureau will offer full support as it currently distributed 1,000 barrels of bleach, 3,000 pieces of protective suits, 25,000 medical-grade masks, 500 boxes of gloves, and 123 protective masks. The Bureau would also like to thank the cleaning teams for always being on stand-by, and immediately commencing disinfection at locations containing the footprints of confirmed cases and its surrounding environments upon being notified by the County’s command center.

Director Fang has especially urged the public to be alert at all times and intensify disinfection at home by using commercial bleach (5%) with the following steps: ① remove the bottle cap and pour approximately 40c.c. of bleach (approximately 2 bottle caps) in a bucket, add 2 liters of water and mix. ② Or add 1 portion of bleach to 49 portions of water for a 1/50 dilution of bleach (1000ppm). ③Soak the rag for approximately 5 minutes and wipe down the surfaces that people frequently come into contact with (e.g. the floor, desks, chairs, telephones, and the surfaces in bathrooms such as the faucets, door handles, toilet lids, and flush handles). It is recommended to maintain air circulation before application, and avoid disinfection of confined spaces. Stop immediately if you are not feeling well. If you are going to public venues and taking public transportation, you must implement personal protective measures that are compliant with the epidemic prevention policies. You must also wear a mask and keep your hands clean throughout the outing, and not carelessly discard masks. People should also avoid unnecessary outings to help safeguard the cleanliness and healthy living environment of Nantou County.
